Where to find time for Woodworking
The biggest struggle with starting my woodworking business
Success from Sawdust is time. I used to
complain all of the time about not having enough time to do anything. “There is not enough time in the day”, and “If
only I had more time”. There are people
out there being extremely successful with the same 24 hours we all have. I think one of the biggest things that are
hardest to achieve as an entrepreneur is time management. We ALL have 24 hours a day to achieve
whatever we can in order to be successful, some people just utilize those 24
hours better than others.

Here is how I utilize my time, and this is not easy but works
for now:
Monday through
Friday:
4am – 5am: Wake up and work on woodworking project
5am – 5:15am: Shower and get dressed for work
5:15am – 6:00am: Drive to work
(During my 45 min. drive I start my day with God, listen to devotional, listen to bible, pray. I am a big believer in faith and having a relationship with God. I feel you start your day more positive and I feel that I give God this time while I can he will bless me to utilize my time effectively as well.)
6:00am – 11:00am: Work time (will sneak in some work on a blog post if I can)
11:00am – 12:00pm: Work out / run
12:00pm – 4:00pm: Work time (will sneak in social media post and sometimes list items to be sold)
4:00pm – 4:45pm: Drive home (will listen to something educational that can advance me in my business)
4:45pm – 10:00pm: Family time (this time is very important to me and will spend this time focused on my family. A night or two a week I may sneak out to work on a project around 8:30pm til around 10:00pm)
10:00pm – 4:00am: Sleep (I am great with 6 hours sleep, however most of the time I only get 5 hours)

This may not be a realistic schedule for everyone but as of
right now it works for me. I would love
to not spend as much time on my commute, but that is okay. I would love to spend more time on my side
business but my daughter is 3 years old right now and will only be this age for
a short time before she grows up and wants to spend less time with me. It is important to not miss those moments,
and to not live with regret. Money will come
and go, and you can make it at any age, but children only continue to grow
older with time, so don’t miss that time.
My plan is to be steady with the work I put in and utilize my time as efficiently
as possible and my business should continue to grow. I don’t expect it to be a get rich quick route,
just one that allows me more freedom.
