5 Reasons I love woodworking
Woodworking is a skill, a skill that anyone can learn. It is not a skill that comes natural to most people and can be tough to learn. When you think of people that seem to be naturally good at woodworking, it is probably an illusion, as eveeryone hasn't seen the hours of time and effort that has gone into the skill. There have been times where I have wanted to break some projects in half and start over, or give up altogether because I couldn't figure out how to make something work. This is part of what keeps woodworking so interesting. It is an endless art form and expression through working with wood. I would like to share with you 5 reasons that I have decided to devote so much time and effort into improving my skill of woodworking.
1. Challenging - Woodworking can be as challenging as the goals and projects that you put ahead of yourself. You have have a beginner level project or you can work on something as challenging as you would like. I personally have began with extremely simple projects, learned on them and moved to more advanced pieces.
2. Skill I can pass to children - There is something about spending time with your child and showing them how to do something you are talented at doing. I love and cherish the time that my daughter wants to be out and try to help me with my projects. I think it is great to express you interest in your skill with you kids so that they see there is more out there than only sports, or video games.
3. Therapeudic - I enjoy the time that I use early in the morning by myself to work on my projects. I normally plug in my music, and dive into woodwork. I can lose myself in it, and gives me a sense of escape from my daily job.
4. Sense of accomplishment - When a project is complete and you see what you started with, compared to what you have as a finished project, its a huge sense of achievement. There are all sorts of emotions that come with it like motivation, confidence, inspiration. With my corporate job right now woodworking is great for me as I don't get the sense of achievement with what I do daily.
5. My wife thinks it is sexy, "or at least I think she does...." - There has got to be something attractive about a man, able to go out into a pile of wood, throw a bunch of stuff together, and make something beautiful out of it. It is a manly skill.... thats all you need to know!
These 5 reasons are the reasons that come to mind right off the bat. I'm sure I could come up with a whole list of reasons why I like to do woodworking but I won't go down that rabbit hole in this post.
