Top 8 tools when starting woodworking
I feel like people tend to overthink just about everything
before starting. Tools may be one of
those things that you are overthinking.
I am going to give you a list of tools it takes to get started building
woodworking projects to sell for a profit, so lets cut to the chase!
----- Disclaimer all
the below tools will include links that will provide me the opportunity to make
money from if link is used to purchase.
Thank you in advance!
Dewalt miter box saw - This is a must have, I use this saw more than any other saw to make simple crosscuts. This brand saw has treated me well over the years however there are so many other brands out there that I am sure as good as this saw.
Milwaukee cordless drill set - Also a must have is the drill and/or impact. This will allow you the ability to screw the pieces of wood together to construct your project. Milwaukee is a great brand, however I have had Rigid and Dewalt and they have also been very reliable.
Dewalt Orbital Sander - The sander is something I feel is worth the money because of the time it saves. If you are refinishing furniture I would say that this would be your most important tool in the shop.
Swanson speed square - The speed square is a quick go to tool to double check angles to be sure they are square and also to check blades and angles on miter saws and other tools. I feel like this cheap tool is a great way to keep your projects on the right track early on.
Stanley tape measure - This will be an absolute must if you are deciding to do any kind of woodworking whether beginner or advanced. Enough said.
Stanley carpentar pencils - Mechanical pencils and pens just don't work! Pencils aren't really tools but not having one is one of my biggest pet peeves is woodworking without a good pencil!
Elmer's wood glue - Again not really a tool but really important. Glue should go on every joint and any other piece of wood that meets for the most part. Good quality work needs glue, and it's cheap!
Elmer's wood filler - Again not a tool but very important. Wood filler helps cover up imperfections and can help fix mistakes. If you run short or don't have wood filler, mix some wood glue with saw dust of the wood you are using. Not as user friendly but can get the job done.
These 8 tools are some of the most important tools to beginner woodworkers. These can help you do small projects such as shelves, wall decor, signs, etc. You don't even have to have brand new or expensive items, sure it would be nice but start small and build up! You may have to adjust the projects to what you have right now but embrace the grind and effort that it will take to start super minimal and expand, what a challenge!
